Hello Friends!
My name is Heather Lanier. I became a parent in 2011 and have since been teaching, forming, and socializing two little humans. I guide my children through finding hands-on ways to explore and learn about the world around us, and how we fit in and work together.
We remember more when we incorporate our passions into our learning so I believe in using personal interests as a portal to learn about not only math, science, history, reading, but the world around us. It is important that children are engaged and curious in their learning and feel comfortable asking questions and sharing thoughts and observations. This allows us to learn from each other more than in the traditional student/teacher or parent/child relationship.
I earned a Bachelor's Degree in mathematics and have been tutoring all levels of maths since the 1990s. I started by helping family and friends, and in 2021 I began tutoring online. I am currently teaching elementary and middle school math, algebra 1 & 2, and geometry. I would love to teach your children about mathematics and help them reach their full potential.
When I am not exploring the world around us with my children or teaching, you can find me curled up with my knitting.
Education
Wesley Theological Seminary
Masters of Divinity
2009
While studying theology is the study of God, it is also a study of using reason and logic to understand and explain the unexplainable. It is an exercise in thinking in the abstract. Mathematics is full of abstract concepts so much of what I learned in seminary can be applied to how to think about mathematical concepts.
Otterbein College
Mathematics BA
2000
My degree is in mathematical theory. Through my studies I learned to see math in everything that surrounds us, especially nature. With this view of mathematics I find ways to link students interests to mathematical studies.
